Lauren’s Summer Portraits
Featuring her Puppy Diesel
Hello everyone! Maddy and Logan back on the blog to gush about a session we had last weekend with Maddy’s sister, Lauren, and her puppy Diesel. Lauren had told us that she wanted pictures with her one-month old puppy before he grows out of the “cute puppy stage” (if you’ve raised a puppy you know from experience how fast this stage goes- it was like the blink of an eye for us with our pup Bonnie!). We couldn’t miss the opportunity to capture this time for her, so we planned our photoshoot!
Before we get to the precious photos, we want to tell you a little bit about Lauren and Diesel. Lauren is currently working on her college degree and she stumbled upon her puppy when her friend’s dog had a litter and put them up for adoption! We don’t blame her, he is just irresistably cute. Fun fact- Lauren has a love for working on classic cars, hence where she got the name Diesel! Diesel is a mix of Husky, German Shepherd and Australian Shepherd (some of the best breeds out there in our opinion).
For this shoot, we knew we wanted to find a location near Washoe Valley, the views there are beyond beautiful. We drove towards Bower’s Mansion and came across Wilson Commons Park, a charming park with a small pond, gazebo area, and open field with wildflowers.
We started shooting at the field of wildflowers and got some pictures of Lauren & Diesel together. We loved the way the backlight gave the photos an ethereal and dream look (this might just be one of our favorites from the shoot).
We also wanted to get some solo shots of Lauren, specifically some close up ones to capture her soft-hearted personality. This location was a perfect fit for her, especially the dreamy purple wildflowers!
We wanted to get some candid shots of Lauren and Diesel playing and running together. Diesel was getting curious and wanting to go off and explore so it was perfect timing! We had to be intentional about the angles and distance so that little Diesel wouldn’t get lost in the grass. These shots were so cool to take and displayed how much fun the “puppy stage” can be! We can’t get over this one we got of Lauren and Diesel both flipping their hair and ear back at the same time! Guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree…
After we were done at the park, we were on our way to find our next location and stumbled upon it when we pulled off the side of the road to let Diesel roam and have a potty break. We pulled over in front of Davis Creek Regional Park, which is unfortunately still closed from the fire that occurred there last year. Most of the vegetation is still recovering but the spot we pulled over at was blooming with bright yellow daisies and a mix of other wildflowers- a sign of healing and growth after devastation. At this time of day, it was already bright and the lighting was pretty harsh so we had to get creative on how to pose Lauren. Mid-day lighting always tends to give a more dramatic look, but Lauren’s beauty softened the look giving the photos a more balanced look.

We finally made it to our destination, Galena Creek Trailhead in Reno, Nevada. This trail was nice as the creek was running through it and gave us access to the water and shaded areas, both as a backdrop and resources to help mitigate the heat. Diesel was pretty tired at this point and in his own world but we still managed to get some pretty cute shots of the both of them.
We have so much love for these two and can’t wait to watch them grow together! They are already the bestest of friends and the cutest duo ever. We are sure that next time we do a photoshoot with Lauren & Diesel, he will not get lost in the grass!
