Stephany & Xiomara: Mother and Daughter Portraits

Hi hi hi! Maddy and Logan here, we want to tell you all about a Mother & Daughter session we had last week with the sweetest family. It was a mini session at Caughlin Ranch in Reno, Nevada. While it was a shorter session, Stephanie and Xiomara made it so memorable and we had the best time getting to know them and capturing their beautiful bond. Their pictures left us teary-eyed and I am sure they will have the same effect on you….

But first, we want to tell you all about Stephanie and Xiomara! Stephanie is an early childhood educator, a kind-hearted soul, and clearly, the best mother. Xiomara is her two (almost three) year-old daughter who also has her mother’s kind heart and is so curious about the world around her! Their relationship is truly unconditional and pure, which was obvious during our shoot and shines through in their photos together.

From the start of the shoot, Xiomara was ready to go! She was very friendly when we approached them and couldn’t wait to tell us about her and her mommy’s matching outfits (and of course we couldn’t forget the cute little butterflies on her sandals). Prior to the start of the shoot, we asked Stephanie if she’d be open to bringing bubbles. Xiomara showed us her Stitch (from Disney’s Lilo & Stitch) bubble machine that they brought and was so excited to turn it on! We just couldn’t waste one more minute and so we walked to our first location, a large field of wildflowers, and turned on the bubble machine to get some photos of them having fun together. Here are some of the photos we got:

This photo was taken after we had finished with the bubbles and were headed to our next location. It was completely unplanned and we were saying hi to Xiomara on the walk when we got this shot. It is one of our absolute favorites from the session and the light in this photo gives it such a dreamy look.

On our way to the next location, we walked down the trail path and Xiomara noticed so many birds and squirrels around us! She made sure to point out the squirrels when they ran and we pondered on where they might be going. Here is a cool photo we got of her trying to figure out where the squirrels went!

We made it to the next location, a spot by the river bank that had some greenery that we thought might be nice to help frame the shot so we got some photos here. We told Stephanie to lift up her daughter, and these shots ended up being soooo adorable, Xiomara didn’t seem to mind it either. This is how it came out!

This next location was one of our absolute favorites. We hadn’t scouted it before-hand but saw it on the way to the river bank that we were at for the photo above. What really stood out to us was the vibrant greenery covering the ground and the whimsical trees as the backdrop. We thought this would be the perfect spot for some close up shots of the two of them! All in all, this spot was pretty magical. We even had some white butterflies pay us a visit, but they didn’t seem to want to be part of the photoshoot…

Last but not least, we had to go back to the river bank to get some photos of them standing and playing in the water. This was a great note to end on, Xiomara was definitely loving the water play. As soon as she stepped foot into the water, she was already splashing around! We told Stephanie & Xiomara to play in the water as if we weren’t there taking photos of them. We wanted it to be candid and genuine, giving them photos that they can look back on and remember as a fun memory they shared together. Here is our favorite one!

Stephanie and Xiomara are such a sweet duo! We loved their photoshoot and had a fantastic time at Caughlin Ranch. We are so grateful to have been able to witness their bond and capture it for them!
